Summary

Fieldwalking and metal-detecting along the proposed route of the Bacton to King's Lynn pipeline recorded several Prehistoric flint objects including a scraper and a core, a sherd of medieval pottery, two medieval brick fragments, a small quantity of post-medieval pottery sherds, ceramic building material, bottle glass and window glass, and eight metal objects including a post-medieval buckle and button. Geophysical survey recorded a linear feature which is likely the remains of a field boundary depicted on 19th century maps.

Map

November 2002 - January 2003. Geophysical, metal detecting and fieldwalking survey. Bacton to King's Lynn pipeline plot 175.
A linear anomaly detected by the geophysical survey was probably a former field boundary and may correspond with those shown on the 1839 tithe map and 1891 ordnance survey map. A number of artefacts were recovered by the fieldwalking survey including one flint scraper, a flint core, 14 flint flakes, a sherd of medieval pottery, two medieval bricks, six post-medieval pottery sherds, 36 pieces of post-medieval ceramic building material, 16 fragments of post-medieval bottle glass and three fragments of post-medieval window glass. Metal detecting located eight metal objects including a post-medieval buckle and button.
