Full Description
Unknown date. Stray Find.
Found by [1] on cliff near bridge over River Stiffkey:
1 Mesolithic flint microlith.
This object is recorded in R. Jacobi's records (S1), although it is unclear how he received this information, as no other sources appear to record this object. The exact location of this discovery is unclear as the detailed description in (S1) ("cliff 1/2 mile north of the bridge over the River Stiffkey, 6 miles east of Wells on the Cromer Road") does not place this discovery either in Stiffkey or near the cliff. It also does not tally with the grid reference listed (TF 987 448), which places this finds some distance from the coast, on the Stiffkey Freshes. The mapped extent of this record is therefore only a very approximate possible location for this findspot (reflecting the fact it is recorded as being found on the cliff). It should be noted that this area lies close to the Mesolithic flint scatter that was identified by J. E. Sainty during the 1930s close to Morston foreshore (NHER 1873).
P. Watkins (HES), 13 July 2014.
