Summary

This site lays within the known area of Roudham deserted medieval village (NHER 1057). Fieldwalking in this area between 1976 and 2011 has recovered small quantities of Late Saxon and post medieval pottery and substantial quantities of medieval pottery. Notably, several concentrations of medieval pottery have been noted on the edge of earthwork platforms. Other finds from this area have included possible medieval roof tile, post medieval brick and tile, lime mortar, bone, oyster shell, and a Prehistoric flint flake.

1976 - 1977. Fieldwalking.
A substantial quantity of medieval coarse ware, primarily later medieval, was recovered from molehills along with a Thetford ware rim, one fragment of St Neots ware, and a few sherds of post medieval pottery. The pottery was recovered from the area of earthworks north of the church (NHER 58774). Two concentrations were noted: one at the norh-east corner platform on the edge of the marsh, and one within a triangular area on the northwest edge of the area (also near the marsh).

1999. Stray find.
A variety of finds were recovered from molehills within this field.
One possible Thetford-type, three medieval, and two late medieval pottery sherds, two calcined flints, and a fragment of mammal bone were recovered from the northeast corner of Streetgate field, to the west of the site of the church (NHER 58774) and north of the cottages.
Medieval and late medieval pottery, a possible fragment of medieval roofing tile, a calcined flint, and oyster shell were collected along the fence to the north of Streetgate Field and Church Field.
Three sherds of medieval pottery, fragment of brick or tile (likely post medieval), lime mortar, fired clay, several bone fragments, and a flint flake were recovered from the perimeter of a platform in the east of Church Field.
