Map

Earlier 1997. Stray Find.
From rubble core of collapsed garden wall:
1 Lower Palaeolithic ovate flint handaxe. Rolled condition with some recent damage. See drawing (S1).
Identified by P. Robins (NCM), see description in file. Also noted on (S2).
P. Watkins (HES), 17 April 2013.

There are a number of possible sources in gravel pits and surface finds recorded in the general area of Thetford and Brettenham, and over the border in Suffolk. However, nothing is recorded near to Roudham and only sporadic surface finds are recorded further east and west. The condition of this specimen suggests that it may have been a surface find. The patina and staining are unlike any specimen from the immediate area in the NCM collections.
P. Robins (NCM), 8 May 1997.
