Full Description
April-August 2011. Geophysical Survey. Field 14
Magnetometer survey did not reveal any magnetic anomalies of archaeological origin. Responses were limited to parallel linear anomalies resulting from modern ploughing and four intense positive anomalies likely representing modern stanchions for a pylon or wind-pump.
See report (S1) for further information.
H. Hamilton (HES), 30 May 2013.
October 2019/January 2020. Geophysical Survey,
Magnetometer survey of part of large proposed development area (Area 7).
This survey also identified no potentially archaeologically-significant responses.
The anomalies detected were all either of probable agricultural origin or likely to have been caused by ferrous debris.
See report (S2) for further information.
P. Watkins (HES), 20 May 2021.
June-November 2020. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of part of large proposed development site (Trenches 1-4, 14-18, 28-33 and 43-44).
The 17 trenches excavated at this location revealed a small number of features, including ditches, pits and a single possible post-hole. These remains were mostly undated, the only possible exceptions being a north-west to south-east aligned ditch that appears to correspond with a former field boundary depicted on the Hethersett Tithe map (S3) and a relatively large pit that produced a post-medieval pantile fragment.
Unstratified finds were limited to a small assemblage of prehistoric worked flints, including pieces of probable Mesolithic/Early Neolithic, Neolithic/Bronze Age and Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age date.
See report (S4) for details.
P. Watkins (HES), 12 August 2026.
