Summary

The Thetford Museum holds a retouched flint flake of possible Palaeolithic date and an unmodified Palaeolithic flake that are both recorded as having been found somewhere on Mundford Road during the 1920s and 1930s. The exact location of these finds is not known, although it is possible that they were recovered from the Waterworks Pit (NHER 59573), which is known to have produced Palaeolithic material around this time.

1930s. Stray Find.
The Thetford Museum holds a retouched flint flake of possible Palaeolithic date that is recorded as having been found somewhere on Mundford Road, most likely during the 1930s (THEHM : 1979.100.4). This object is described as a rectangular flake with working on both sides. It is labelled as a ?Palaeolithic axe, although the museum's records state that it is perhaps tending towards a knife.

It is possible that this object was recovered from the Waterworks Pit on Mundford Road, which is known to have produced at least one Palaeolithic implement around this time (NHER 59573).
