Summary

Selbrigg Pond was created around 1810 as a header reserve for Hempstead Mill (NHER 11904). Elements of a duck decoy were added later.

Selbrigg Pond was created c.1810 as a header reserve for Hempstead Mill (NHER 11904) with elements of a duck decoy added later. See (S1).
Although the pond is not shown on Faden's map (S2), it does appear on tithe maps (S3 and S4) and the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S5). The wood to the north and east of the pond is called ‘Old Decoy Plantation’ on (S5).
