Summary

These cottages have plain pilasters and a datestone with the initials GA and the date 1850. This presumably dates the development and names the developer which could be discovered with a little background research.

Map

Survey. March 2014
Housing development of circa 1850 set back behind the houses on the main road and gained by a long narrow path. It consists of four semi-detached houses most of which have since been combined to form single houses. They are architecturally consistant with central and angle giant pilasters and every other facade has hollowed out pilasters as opposed to plain. The windows, of which not one original survives, have skewback arches and the facades are of high quality gault brick. The development of tiny semi detached houses may have been workers' housing built by an employer similar to workers housing on Country House estates. Equally they may have been alms houses and their situation close to the centre of the village houses lends support to this. The last datestone of 1850 on this house with the initials GA gives the date of the devolpment and the initials of the developer.
