Summary

The site of one of the Branch Road toll houses. The Branch Road between Halvergate village and Stracey Arms in Tunstall was constructed as part of the Acle New Road scheme in the early 1830s.
The toll house is marked on the Halvergate tithe map and (S1) notes is listed in the Apportionment of 1842 as 'Cottage-Turnpike Gate'. Another toll house or gate (NHER 55883) was located at the other end of the Branch Road, near the Stracey Arms.
