Map

April 2014.
Linear cropmarks of probable boundary ditches are visible on Google Earth imagery from 2006 (S1). A north south aligned ditch is visible to the western side of the complex. Two ditches run eastwards from this in SW-NE and WNW-ESE orientations, possibly meeting to form a V-shaped enclosure. To the east a further north-south aligned ditch may be visible. These may represent field boundaries but appear to be associated with an artefactual assemblage (NHER 53068) including a hoard of Roman coins and numerous personal ornaments such as brooches. These may be indicative of a Roman settlement, however the small quantity of pottery found may indicate this is a religious site. This may be reinforced by the location of the complex close to the River Wittle.
