Summary

Fieldwalking in the garden of 'The Dancing Man' in 1995 and 2004 recovered Mesolithic, Early Neolithic, Neolithic and undatable prehistoric worked flints; Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age, Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; a post-medieval pantile; a ?Roman nail and a post-medieval musket ball.

Finds recovered in garden of 'The Dancing Man' - a house formed from the old stable block of the now demolished Burgh Hall (NHER 12838):

May 1995. Stray Find.
4 Mesolithic flint flakes.
1 Neolithic flint scraper.
8 Roman pottery sherds (greyware).
1 Late Saxon pottery sherd (Thetford Ware).
2 medieval pottery sherds (unglazed and ?late medieval).
1 post-medieval pantile and 2 clay pipe fragments.
1 undatable pottery sherd.

4 undatable prehistoric flint flakes.
4 Early Neolithic flint scrapers, 1 knife, 1 ?borer, 17 blades and blade-like flakes, 34 flakes and 3 spalls.
4 ?Early Neolithic flint blades.
1 Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age pottery sherd (Beaker).
45 Roman pottery sherds (including 36 greyware, 2 grog-tempered, 1 East Anglian colour coated, 1 Nene Valley colour coated, 1 Mayen ware, 2 Samian, 1 pale brown fine ware (?source) and 1 oxidised possible kiln reject).
1 ?Roman copper alloy nail.
3 post-medieval pottery sherds (2 Frechen stoneware and 1 Glazed Red Earthenware) and 1 musket ball.
