Full Description
1 July 1980. Field Observation.
Examination of small disused gravel pit by J. J. Wymer.
Coarse gravel was observed, alternated with fine sand, for a depth of 5m.
11 flint flakes were picked up in a few minutes of searching on the scree at the base of the pit. Although these show some signs of being deliberately struck, none have a full combination of striking platform, bulb of percussion and scars of previously removed flakes. There does however remain a possibility that some were humanly struck, particularly one which could be a finishing flake.
Information from (S1) and (S2). The flints are now part of the Wymer Collection held by Royal Holloway (W3989-W3999).
P. Watkins (HES), 21 June 2014.
