Full Description
One of 14 surviving milestones along the former Norwich to Scole Turnpike, marking Norwich 8 miles and Ipswich 35 miles. This turnpike was created in 1768/1769, running from the junction with the Norwich to Thetford Turnpike just south of St Stephen's Gate to Scole bridge on the Suffolk border, and lasted for 106 years before being disturnpiked in 1874.

This milestone was rediscovered leaning over a ditch in 2011 when a hedge was removed.
2014. Maintenance work by the Milestone Society.
Milestone was recovered and as the original base was missing, an 18 inch deep plinth was added. The two are fixed together by metal rods. The milestone was then cleaned and painted. The milestone's original location beside the carriageway was considered unsafe so it has been placed at the back of the ditch in front of a fence.
