Full Description
August 2012. Walkover Survey.
A walkover survey was carried out prior to restoration work by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust to return this area to wet heathland.
The aims of the survey were to record any visible earthworks and artefacts and to note the overall condition of the field. Survey conditions were not ideal, with high plant growth obscuring much of the land, but significant changes in ground level could be noted and areas of disturbance and/or where bare earth was exposed were examined for archaeological finds. However, the only features noted were slight rises in the ground associated with maintaining the dykes separating the fields and no archaeological finds were observed.
Groundworks for a new dyke on the southern boundary of the site were inspected, but no archaeological features were observed.
See report (S1) for further information.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2013.29).
