Monitoring of groundworks associated with habitat restoration works on the River Nar.
This weir was located approximately 60m upstream from the present A1065. It sits within a complex of floated water meadows (NHER 44222) constructed between 1803 and 1811 on the Holkham Estate Farm of John Beck. Three phases of construction were evident within the present visible structure, the first being of bricks and mortar construction, later repaired using similar materials and finally consolidated and partially rebuilt using concrete. The original sides of the weir were approximately 12m long. Further elements of the structure were apparent beneath the turf on both banks but were not recorded since the turf was not being disturbed during the works.
See report (S1) for further information.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2012.227).
