Full Description
September-October 2011. Watching Brief.
Remains of a post-medieval bridge were observed on either side of a loop of the River Wensum during a visit to monitor re-excavation of this loop and excavation of a new channel. Remains of red brick bridge abutments were observed within an area of rough pasture. The bricks have a small frog, indicating a probable mid-19th century date. It has been suggested that the bridge may have been constructed during changes to Sennowe Hall (NHER 7157) and park (NHER 30487) in the 1850's. A track which led south and west from the bridge was visible as a slightly raised area across the valley.
The re-excavation of the river did not reveal any additional details of the bridge abutments.
