Map

June 2015.
Post medieval brick structure on the River Babingley, probably dating to the 18th or 19th century. The structure acted as a sluice or flood gate. The structure is discussed and photographed in (S1) which references a sketch map of 1700 showing a new sluice "near Marsham Point". It is likely that the current structure is a slightly later replacement. The sluice is visible on (S2), although it is unclear whether it is shown on (S3). (S1) suggests it is labelled on 19th centruy maps as "Rising Stop". The structure was visited during survey ahead of potential river restoration. The map location is based on grid reference and information supplied by Norfolk Rivers Trust.
