Full Description
September 2014. Breaking New Ground field visit. HA 18.
An irregular hollow with a hollow way on the north. The hollow is roughly circular with a diameter of 15m. The hollow way is about 20m long, up to 8m wide and up to 0.5m deep.
The hollow would have been dug as a quarry for sand and gravel. The hollow way will have provided access into the hollow from the north.
It is not shown on (S1), suggesting it could be late 19th or 20th century in date.
D. Robertson (HES), 27 July 2015.
July 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The hollow or probable quarry, with associated hollow way, described above, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs (such as S2) and imagery from a recent lidar survey (S3) [1]. Its general appearance, and the fact that it is not depicted on the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition 25 inch map (S4), would suggest that it is of modern date, as suggested above.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 24 July 2017.
