Summary

A systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey of part of this field in 2006 recovered prehistoric worked flints, medieval pottery sherds and a small number of medieval to post-medieval and undated metal objects. A small number of unstratified finds were also recovered during trial trenching at the same location in 2007, including Late Neolithic/Bronze Age worked flints, medieval pottery sherds and a medieval/post-medieval roof tile fragment.

Field survey on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Field 20).
Finds recovered included:
20 prehistoric worked flints.
2 medieval pottery sherds.
1 ?medieval decorated fitting/clasp.
4 post-medieval coins, 1 clay tobacco pipe fragment and 1 buckle.
1 ?post-medieval thimble.
1 undatable lead weight and 1 copper alloy sheet fragment.

2007. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Phase 1).
The three trenches excavated at this location revealed no archaeologically significant remains, despite being positioned to investigate a previously identified cropmark enclosure (NHER 18126).
A small assemblage of unstratified finds was recovered including small, irregular struck flints of probable Late Neolithic or Bronze Age date, 2 medieval pottery sherds and a medieval/post-medieval roof tile fragment.
