Summary

Between 1979 and 1994 a notable number of medieval pottery sherds were recovered in this area, including a substatial part of a large cooking vessel or jar. A single Late Saxon pottery sherd and a number of post-medieval sherds were also recovered. Previously recorded under NHER 12065.

Within walled garden. Surface collection.
1 Late Saxon pottery sherd (Thetford-type ware).
66 medieval pottery sherds (47 unglazed, 18 glazed Grimston and 1 stoneware).
2 medieval/post-medieval pottery sherds (LMT).
14 post-medieval pottery sherds (4 stoneware, 2 reduced glazed and 8 Glazed Red Earthenware).
Flower pot and post-medieval brick/tile not counted.

Early 1989. Stray Find.
Garden immediately south of house. Recovered in area terraced during construction of new house in 1977, within area of darker subsoil (possibly the base of a pit):
Large part of medieval jar or cooking pot, almost all rim but base missing. See drawing (S1).
Simple everted rim, slightly micaceous fabric, grey with darker patches; body hand made.
Also found:
4 medieval pottery sherds (rim of developed medieval jar, unglazed; three sherds medieval unglazed).
1 post-medieval pottery sherd (Glazed Red Earthenware).
