Full Description
1979 (or before). Metal-detecting.
Found at Thorpe Woodlands, in water meadows near Peddar's Way at approximately [1]:
1 Roman wooden knife handle with carved lattice pattern.
Donated to Moyses Hall Museum (1979-170).
Information from copy of museum record card.
It should be noted that the mapped extent of this record reflects the uncertain location of this findspot. The approximate grid reference listed places the find on the north bank of the River Thet, in Bridgham parish, whilst the museum's records list it as being from West Harling (which is a better fit for the rest of the recorded provenance).
P. Watkins (HES), 5 July 2016.
