Civil Parish GREAT ELLINGHAM, BRECKLAND, NORFOLK

Map

May-September 2014.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with the Great Ellingham sewerage scheme.
The excavation of a drill pit at this location exposed a single, shallow post-medieval pit. The fill of this feature contained fragments of post-medieval ceramic building material (not retained) and fragments of animal bone. This pit survived in the section of Chequers Lane where the construction of the modern road appears to have resulted in the least truncation to the underlying deposits. It was present in one of the few areas where a buried topsoil survived.
