Summary

Up to five probable Bronze Age round barrows, forming a small barrow cemetery, have been identified as earthworks on the ground, and on lidar imagery from a survey flown in 2015. It is very likely that the earthworks still survive. The barrows are recorded individually as NHER 61503-6 and NHER 62020; the excavation prior to 1934 of a barrow in this approximate area is recorded as NHER 5649, but whether this relates to any of the mounds recorded here is not known.

Up to five probable Bronze Age round barrows, forming a small barrow cemetery, have been identified as earthworks on the ground (see NHER 5649), and on lidar imagery from a survey flown in 2015 (S1). It is very likely that the earthworks still survive. The four larger barrows (NHER 61503-6) were first recorded and surveyed in 1973; see NHER 5649 and Historic England Archive record TL 88 NW 14 (S2). There is some confusion in the sources as to their exact location, but the features visible on the lidar (which vary from being reasonably clear to only vaguely visible) correspond broadly to the four mounds depicted on Ordnance Survey maps. A possible fifth small mound (NHER 62020) has been identified from the lidar alone. The morphology of the mounds, together with their topographical location and archaeological context, make their interpretation as round barrows highly likely.
The barrows are recorded individually as NHER 61503-6 and NHER 62020; the excavation prior to 1934 of a barrow in this approximate area is recorded as NHER 5649, but whether this relates to any of the mounds recorded here is not known.
