Summary

In 1995 an earthwork survey identified a cluster of depressions at this location. The site lies to the north of a possible Neolithic flint mine (NHER 5086) and it is therefore possible that these features are of a similar origin, although at present their nature remains uncertain.

Map

1995. Analytical Earthwork Survey.
Survey by Royal Commission as part of a national project investigating Neolithic flint mines.
A series of clustered depressions were identified at this location, approximately 330m to the north of the probable flint mine that was the focus of the survey (NHER 5086). Although it is possible that these depressions are the remains of similar features, at present their nature remains uncertain.
It was observed that the site surveyed had been landscaped and levelled and that the shifting sandy soil may also have obscured traces of extraction.
See publication (S1) for plan and brief discussion of the Buckenham Tofts survey. This survey is also noted in (S2).
