June 2017. Field Observation.
Brief visit to Old Hall Farm Barn by S. Heywood (HES).
A timber-framed threshing barn of 17th-century date with arch-braced tie beams and ties not corresponding to principal rafters. It is of six bays with an off-centre cart entrance, a tall brick and render plinth and a weather-boarded exterior. The roof has a covering of tin fixed to a separate framework of purlins.
One half of the barn appears to have suffered a partial collapse and been repaired with some re-used timbers (although the roof does not appear to have been affected).
It is a fine barn of relatively early date.
See short report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 17 February 2019.
