NHER 62022 (Monument record) - Earthworks of undated enclosures and ditches

The site of low earthworks and vegetation marks, indicating the presence of rectilinear enclosures, ditches and platforms of unknown date, are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). Parts of this site have been evaluated prior to quarrying activity and undated ditches and pits were recorded See NHER 40433 for details. This quarrying activity has already adversely affected and in some cases destroyed parts of this site – much of the eastern half has been quarried by 2014 – but it is possible that some elements survive within the western half.
The ditched features are generally ill-defined and fragmentary and it must be borne in mind that some may relate to attempts to drain the land. Similar ditched enclosures alongside the river to the east have been interpreted as being Roman in date (for example NHER 5587).
