Map

February 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The fragmentary cropmarks of undated ditch and bank boundaries, field boundaries and trackways are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S7). Finds in the area (NHER 19722 and NHER 28314) include Roman, Saxon, medieval and post-medieval coins and metalwork.
The cropmarks are hard to record with confidence due to background geological patterning and agricultural marks. The photographs also reveal linear features that may relate to Second World War military activity in the area (for example S1-S3) and were not mapped, although it is possible that archaeological features were omitted in error.
Additional cropmarks were identified within the southern and eastern part of site on (RAF 59, OS), but not included in mapping as they are potentially all agricultural. A series of rectangular soilmarks are visible on the edge of (S6) but again were omitted as they may coincide with agricultural features on other aerial photographs (for example S7).
