Map

An area of probable ridge and furrow earthworks is visible at this location on Google Earth imagery from 2011 (S1) and visualised Environment Agency LIDAR imagery (S2). Aerial photographs taken by the RAF in 1946 (S3) suggest that these earthworks once extended to the west of the north-north-east to south-south-west aligned modern drain that now forms the western boundary of this field. Fainter traces of similarly-aligned features can also be seen to the east of the surviving earthworks.
P. Watkins (HES), 1 August 2017.

May 2017. Earthwork Survey
This survey identified a total of 26 east-to-west aligned linear earthworks, comprising a series of alternating banks and hollows consistent with the ridges and furrows of an open field agricultural system. All are fairly straight and display a typical slight reverse 'S' curve in plan. A number of potentially contemporary field boundary banks and ditches were also recorded.
See report (S4) and NHER 66867 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 18 April 2023.

August 2017.
The extent of this record, previously centered TF 63643 22459, has been expanded to the east and south in order to incorporate additional remnants of ridge and furrow to the east (noted above) and undated linear features to the south.
H. Hamilton (HES), 14 September 2017.
