Summary

The two 19th-century buildings that previously stood at this location were briefly examined prior to their demolition. No 34 was a badly fire-damaged three storey block that appeared to date to around 1825 (although an earlier frame may have been concealed). No 36, to the north, was a mid 19th-century block that was said to have a 17th-century back range.

Map

Site of Nos 34 and 36 Calvert Street, which were demolished at some after 1980 to make way for what is now Singer Court.

December 1980. Building Survey.
Briefly examined as part of Norwich Survey.
No 34 was a badly fire-damaged three-storey block, previously gutted for commercial use. Its general appearance suggested a date of c. 1825, though there was a possibility that an earlier frame was totally concealed.

No 36 was a mid 19th-century block that was said to have a 17th-century back range running away from the street.
It was not possible to gain access to the interior of this property.
