NHER 62370 (Monument record) - Site of The Cottage, Pond Lane

Formerly two cottages, much altered in 1949. Photographs taken before it was rebuilt show that it was a two-storied brick building with two gable-end chimneys and a thatched roof. There were a pair of segmental-headed doors in the centre of the north front and segmental-headed casement windows to either side of the doors. There were two short casement windows on the first floor, above those below. There was an 18th- or 19th-century lean-to at the back. At the time of the survey all doors and windows were modern and the walls had been raised to provide headroom in the bedrooms. The roof, which had been "entirely of larch poles" had also been completely rebuilt.
It was difficult to determine whether this was originally a single Class-T house that had been divided to form two Class-S cottages, or whether it had started as two cottages. The date was also difficult to determine but corbelled gables make it more like to be late 17th century than 18th century.
