Full Description
67 and 69 Barrack Street.
Two adjacent houses that were possibly originally part of the same terrace as nearby 77 and 79 Barrack Street (NHER 26532) - suggested in (S1) as potentially the last surviving examples in Norwich of this type of one-up, one-down terraced house.
1977. Building Survey.
No 67 examined as part of Norwich Survey.
One-up, one-down end terrace cottage, fronting directly onto pavement. Red, sand-faced bricks in Flemish bond with pantile roof. The door in the back wall leads into a small scullery which in turn has access to a communal rear yard with fuel store and w.c. Casement windows on both on ground floor and first floor, front and back. The end gable has a tumbled brick top edge and the front elevation a brick dentil cornice.
See record forms (S2) for further details, sketch floor plan and copies of photographs.
P. Watkins (HES), 13 November 2017.
1987. Planning Application.
See file for copy of letter sent by A. Carter in response to the proposed alteration of these buildings.
It is noted that at the time these cottages were the only largely unaltered part of the terrace and that they were of particular significance to historians examining the development of workers' housing.
P. Watkins (HES), 13 November 2017.
