Summary

Metal-detecting in 1996/1997 and 2016 recovered a medieval coin; a post-medieval jetton and a number of other metal objects, including an undated unidentified copper alloy object (possibly a Late Bronze Age to Early Roman votive model of a miniature wheel or a post-medieval pastry jigger); a Middle/Late Saxon hooked tag; a possible Late Saxon copper alloy ingot; medieval and post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval harness mount and a post-medieval rotary key, harness mount and lead tap of unusual form.

The finds below were recovered from the eastern side of Barnham Cross Common. A number of poorly located finds have also been recovered from across the Common and are recorded under NHER 5797 and NHER 65750. Those finds include at least one Palaeolithic handaxe; Mesolithic, Neolithic and Beaker period flint implements; Roman pottery and a Late Saxon or medieval iron spearhead.
