Summary

Metal-detecting at this site between 1989 and 1991 recovered Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; a post-medieval token; Roman and post-medieval pottery sherds and a range of Roman to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include a Roman cosmetic mortar, terret, seal box lid, possible finger ring fragment and brooches; a Late Saxon bridge cheek-piece fragment; a medieval harness pendant and pendant and a post-medieval lead ?toy fragment. The quantity and range of Roman finds recovered is notable, possibly indicating this site was close to some form of settlement focus.
