Summary

In the late 1960s or early 1970's a brick culvert was observed whilst undertaking work at Wicken Farm. The bricks were described as long and thin and may be of Roman date but this has not been confirmed. If of Roman date, it's possible that the culvert could be related to the site of a Roman mosaic observed to the west (see NHER 62941).

Map

Late 1960's - Early 1970's. Casual Observation.
In 2018, the observation of a brick culvert was reported to the Historic Environment Service [1].
The remains were found by workmen at the farm "about 50 years ago". The culvert was constructed of long, thin bricks and may be of Roman date but this cannot be certain as the remains were not seen. The culvert appeared to continue westwards, towards the site of a Roman mosaic (NHER 62941), and if of Roman date is likely related to these remains.
For further details, see sketch plan (S1).
