Map

May-June 2012. Walkover Survey.
Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey within Church Wood and The Stews (Compartment 2a).
This survey identified the remains of two former extraction pits, both of which are clearly marked on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map (S1). The first is located within The Stews at TF 8808 4392 (Site 2) and the second in Church Wood at TF 8810 4384 (Site 4). The latter is by far the more substantial of the two and possibly provided material used during the construction of the dam to the north.
