Summary

Cropmarks of an undated rectangular enclosure were identified from aerial photographs taken in 1975 but further analysis by the National Mapping Programme project in 2009 suggests that there is no convincing evidence for an enclosure. However, the 1945 aerial photographs show some possible linear and rectilinear cropmarks that could relate to post-medieval field boundaries or later farming activity.

March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
Assessment of the above mentioned aerial photograph (S1) as part of the NMP project revealed no convincing sign of an enclosure at this location. A series of possible cropmarks were tentatively identified on vertical aerial photographs from 1945 (S2), some of which appeared to match up with post medieval field boundaries depicted on historic maps. The remainder of the cropmarks, consisting of linear and rectilinear ditch-like marks, could not convincingly be distinguished as archaeology and could easily have been created by relatively recent agricultural activity in the field and were therefore not mapped, but a note of their possible presence has been made in case of future evidence arising or evaluation of the site.
S. Horlock (NMP), 24 March 2009.
