January 2018. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The 22 trenches excavated revealed no archaeologically significant features or deposits.
The only remains recorded were a modern drain and an infilled cellar that lay immediately to the west of the former vegetable packing plant located to the south of Park Lane. A substantial concrete pad was also encountered in this area.
In all three of the areas examined topsoil deposits were generally between 0.30m and 0.40m deep and lay directly above the natural geology, with no subsoil layer identified.
Metal-detecting recovered only modern iron objects, all of which were discarded.
See report (S1) for further details.
