Map

May 2017. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of new dwellings to rear of 47-49 Bridge Street (NHER 46791).
No archaeologically significant features or deposits were observed. A thick, mixed deposit of topsoil and modern rubble was present across much of the site, suggesting extensive recent disturbance. Only in an area at the eastern edge of the site was a deeply-buried, undisturbed subsoil layer recorded. The overlying mixed deposit was probably the result of 19th-century and later activity, including the construction and demolition of the building that had previously occupied the site.
No finds were recovered.
See report (S1) for further details.
