Summary

A geophysical survey of this area undertaken in 2011 identified several possible pits. The archaeological signficiance of these possible features is however uncertain, particularly as it is possible that there were tree pits associated with an orchard of post-medieval or modern date.

Full Description

March 2010. Desk-based Assessment.
Survey of large proposed development area.

January 2011. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of part of large proposed development area (Field J).
This survey identified several discrete positive anomalies that may indicate the presence of pits. It is suggested that these could well be tree pits associated with the orchards known to have existed in the vicinity of Newfound Farm since at least the 19th century.
No other potentially archaeologically significant anomalies were detected.
