Summary

A series of cropmark ditches which may relate to possible Roman enclosures are seen on aerial photography. The ditches form possibly three rectangular enclosures with Roman and medieval pottery (NHER 22911) found within in the centre of the possible enclosures. The cropmarks are only visible in 1992 and previous work in 1994 has suggested that the cropmarks in conjunction with the pottery may relate to a building. However the size and layout of the cropmarks would be more consistent with enclosures than a building. It is possible that these cropmarks may relate to modern agricultural ditches.

Map

October 1994. Aerial Photograph Interpretation.
This work revealed a complex of rectangular enclosures, one oblong being particularly prominent, over this corner
of the field. The pottery findspot (NHER 22911) falls within the main enclosures. It is possible that these cropmarks combined with the pottery find could indicate the presence of a Roman building.
These cropmarks were previously recorded under NHER 22911.
