Summary

Possible medieval to post medieval banks and ditches are seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The features can be seen as earthworks in the 1940s with the majority of the features levelled by the 1970s. The bank and ditches most likely relate to possible settlement remains, field systems, boundaries and drainage. The bank and ditches are also in close proximity to possible settlement remains to the north east (NHER 63240), to the north (NHER 63239) and a moated site to the east (NHER 31916). The features most likely also relate to boundaries and drainage mapped on the Tithe map, First and Second edition Ordnance Survey maps. The bank and ditches form part of dense pattern of medieval to post medieval settlement, land division and trackways evident on aerial sources along the valley of the River Wissey

Possible medieval – post medieval banks and ditches are seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S5). The features can be seen as earthworks in the 1940s with the majority of the features levelled by the 1970s. The bank and ditches most likely relate to possible settlement remains, field systems, boundaries, trackways and drainage. The bank and ditches also are in close proximity to possible settlement remains to the north east (NHER 63240), to the north (NHER 63239) and a moated site to the east (NHER 31916). The features most likely also relate to boundaries and drainage mapped on the Tithe map, First and Second edition Ordnance Survey maps (S6-S8). Areas of disturbed ground can be seen across the site in the 1940s (S3) practically in the west. The distributed ground looks relatively recently in the 1940s and it is possible that the pit features centred at TL 8014 9363 may possibly relate to Second World War activity. The bank and ditches form part of dense pattern of medieval to post medieval settlement, land division and trackways evident on aerial sources along the valley of the River Wissey.
