Full Description
2004-2005. Desk-based Assessment.
Archaeological assessment of western route options for Norwich Northern Distributor Road.
See reports (S1) and (S2) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 7 July 2019.
March-June 2009. Geophysical Survey
Magnetometer survey on proposed line of the Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Site H14).
Area examined in order to achieve representative sample of overall route.
None of the anomalies detected were of obvious archaeological significance.
A large number of small discrete dipolar anomalies were detected, these almost certainly caused by fired or ferrous debris in the topsoil. Strong dipolar anomalies were also detected along the western and eastern boundaries of the field.
A number of weak north-to-south aligned linear positive anomalies were most likely the result of modern cultivation practices.
There appeared to be no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with the potentially Roman cropmark features recorded at the eastern end of this field (NHER 18192).
See report (S3) for further details.
Previously recorded under NHER 49743.
P. Watkins (HES), 3 August 2015. Amended 13 May 2019.
May 2014-January 2015. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey on proposed line of the Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Area H14).
This survey of the area to the south of the previously examined strip also revealed no evidence for archaeologically-significant remains.
Although numerous linear and discrete anomalies were detected these were thought to be primarily the result of either modern agricultural practices or changes in the underlying geology. Some anomalies were also probably caused by the presence of modern ferrous debris.
See report (S4) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 7 July 2019.
