Full Description
2004-2005. Desk-based Assessment.
Archaeological assessment of western route options for Norwich Northern Distributor Road.
See reports (S1) and (S2) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 12 July 2019.
2007. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Phase 1).
A single trench was excavated at this location, which lies close to the known site of St Faith's Fairstead (NHER 8126) and had produced a significant number of medieval to post-medieval finds during a preceding field survey (see NHER 49745 for further details).
No evidence was found to suggest that the finds are associated with significant sub-surface remains. A single undated ditch was the only feature exposed. This had probably been associated with a minor field boundary.
See report (S3) for further details. See also (S4).
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.362).
Previously recorded under NHER 49745.
S. Howard (NLA), 25 November 2009. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 29 July 2015 and 14 May 2019.
April 2012-April 2013. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Block 23).
This survey revealed little evidence for archaeologically significant remains.
A north-north-east to south-south-west aligned linear anomaly is almost certainly the ditch identified during the early trial trenching, the line of which appears to corresponds with a former boundary marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map.
Although a range of other anomalies were identified these were thought to be of likely agricultural or geological origin.
See report (S5) for further details.
Previously recorded under NHER 49745.
P. Watkins (HES), 4 August 2015. Amended 14 May 2019.
