Summary

Metal-detecting in 2019 recovered a well preserved Middle/Late Saxon silver disc brooch inlaid with neillo and decorated with foliar and zoomorphic motifs.

Middle/Late Saxon silver disc brooch in well preserved condition. The object's main design comprises a cross with concave-sided arms above a saltire of four tongue-shaped lobes. The brooch features niello inlay and extensive foliar and zoomorphic motfis in the Trewhiddle style. The decoration is closely related to brooches from the Pentney Hoard.
