Map

September-November 2008. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Sheringham Shoals Offshore Windfarm Grid Connection cable (Trenches 19-20, 2a and 21).
The four trenches excavated at this location revealed only three features, all of which were of probable post-medieval to modern date.
A west-north-west to east-south-east aligned ditch in the centre of the field was probably associated with a former field boundary that can be seen on 19th-century maps. A second ditch at the southern end of the field was parallel to the extant field boundary and therefore also probably of relatively recent date. An adjacent pit containing burnt material appeared to be modern.
No finds were recovered.
See reports (S1) and (S2) for further details. This work is also noted in (S3).
Previously recorded under NHER 42834.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 4 June 2019.

2009-2010. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of topsoil stripping and other groundworks associated with installation of the Sheringham Shoals Offshore Windfarm Grid Connection cable.
It appears that a third ditch was observed during this phase of work. No finds were recovered.
Final report awaited. See assessment report (S2) for further details. This work is also noted in (S3).
P. Watkins (HES), 4 June 2019.

A combined archive comprising material from both phases of archaeological work at this site has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.361).
