Map

(S1) describes this public house as red brick under a hipped slate roof, white brick dressings linking stone lintels over windows. Since the photographs in (S1) were taken, the brickwork has all been painted so the details described in (S1) are no longer visible. Changes have also been made to many of the windows. This is one of only a few buildings north of Loke Road on (S2).
(S3) reports that a new licence granted on 20 July 1883 for premises at Paynes Land, North End. This publiuc house opened as the New Hotel, Cresswell Street, later becoming the Bentinck Arms, then changing its name again to the Bentinck Hotel by 1903.
