NHER 63478 (Building record) - 31 Lynn Road, Gaywood

The Ship Inn building gives the impression of a large 18th century building with a smaller addition. However the latter had date plaque in east wall of 1647 and three slit windows, blocked below (now covered over). [1] suggests this may have been one house of 1647, and only partly rebuilt as an inn after change of ownership. Possibly one of the houses rebuilt by the Burgesses after being destroyed in a sally during the Seige of Lynn.

1647 building sub-divided in 18th century when central section rebuilt as inn; original stack, which has reused block of limestone, demolished. Building heightened in 19th century and altered 1938.
