Full Description
(S1) describes this as a bus garage in two main parts. The older, in Classical style, built in or before 1928, the newer a double-gabled shed with brick screen wall, added in 1933. The western part of the building is in effect a shed, with a strictly symmetrical stripped Classical facing. The central opening has been widened and heightened, presumably to accommodate taller buses. The western elevation is no longer visible as the filling station has been built against it, but a photograph of 1928 shows it to have evenly spaced pilasters and a large central doorway, probably the main entrance. To the east lies the extension, which is in a standard Tilling design. It consists of a double roof with front-facing gables partially hidden by a low continuous brick parapet. A brick lean-to extension on the east, with a corrugated roof, is probably that for which permission was granted in 1950. It appears that in the original 1920s building there may have been no offices, which is unusual, according to (S2).
See (S1) for further information.
