Summary

A geophysical survey at this location in 2012/2013 revealed two groups of parallel linear anomalies, all of which are likely to represent infilled ditches. Several of these features correspond with former field boundaries shown on 19th-century maps and the other ditches were also most likely post-medieval in date. The various discrete anomalies detected were not thought to be archaeologically signficant.

P. Watkins (HES), 12 July 2019.

April 2012-April 2013. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer surveys on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Route (Blocks 25 and 26).
Linear anomalies that are likely to represent soil-filled ditches were identified in both of the areas examined. Several of these appear to correspond with former field boundaries visible on 19th-century maps.
A cluster of discrete anomalies close to the junction of Calf Lane and Bullock Hill is likely to correspond with a former gravel pit shown at this location on early 20th-century maps.
Although a range of other anomalies were identified these are not thought to be of archaeological significance, being most likely of agricultural or geological origin.
See report (S3) for further details.
Previously recorded under NHER 15793.
