Map

March-June 2009. Geophysical Survey
Magnetometer survey on proposed line of the Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Site S11).
This field was selected for investigation due to its proximity to the site of Beeston St Andrew church (NHER 18125).
Various linear and discrete anomalies were detected across the survey area, although only a small number potentially represent archaeologically significant features.
A north-to-south aligned weak linear positive anomaly in the western third of the survey probably represents a soil-filled ditch, particularly as it appears to correspond with a former field boundary marked on 19th-century maps. Several nearby north-north-east to south-south-west aligned linear anomalies in the north-west corner of the field may indicate the former position of a track, although these could also be associated with a modern agricultural feature. The remaining linear anomalies were thought to to be the result of recent cultivation practices.
Small discrete dipolar anomalies detected across the survey area were almost certainly caused by fired or ferrous debris in the topsoil.
See report (S3) for further details.
Previously recorded under NHER 41873.
P. Watkins (HES), 3 August 2015. Amended 14 July 2019.

April-September 2015. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Field S11).
The five trenches excavated at this location revealed only a single undated ditch.
See report (S4) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 14 July 2019.
